Reporting and analytics
SENAITE Data Lens
Turnaround times, instrument load and out-of-spec trends straight from your SENAITE. One Docker stack next to your SENAITE, no cloud, no data out. Currently in the pilot phase.
SENAITE knows every sample, every analysis and every result your lab has produced. Getting a monthly figure out of it is another matter: the object database is built for running the lab, not for reporting across millions of analyses.
In most labs someone exports, copies and pivots the same numbers into a spreadsheet every month. Data Lens replaces that routine with dashboards that are always up to date.
A small SENAITE add-on writes every saved change into a PostgreSQL database at the end of the transaction. There is no nightly export, and reports do not put load on your SENAITE: queries run against PostgreSQL, not against the LIMS.
The data is stored as one flat table with one row per analysis: sample, client, sample type, service, method, instrument, result, specification, and the timestamps from receipt to verification. Simple enough that your own IT can query it without a data model diagram.
- Turnaround time. From sample receipt to verification, broken down by analysis.
- Workload. Analyses per method and instrument over time.
- Out of specification. Results outside their limits, as a trend instead of a surprise.
- Your own questions. Dashboards are built in Metabase, so a new one is a few clicks, not a development project.
Data Lens ships as a Docker Compose stack that runs on your own infrastructure: PostgreSQL, Metabase, and the add-on in your SENAITE. Your lab data never leaves your network, and the procurement path is the one your team already uses for SENAITE.
- Known technology. PostgreSQL and Metabase, both open source, both familiar to most IT departments.
- Open access. Connect Excel, Power BI or any SQL client to the same data.
- No lock-in. SENAITE remains the system of record. Remove Data Lens and nothing in your LIMS changes.
We are looking for a small number of labs running SENAITE in production to shape Data Lens with us. We set up the stack on a copy of your data, build the first dashboards together, and ask one question: is this the number you need, or a different one?
Pricing for the regular product is agreed with the pilot labs. If you already know which figure you assemble by hand every month, we would like to hear about it.
- Where does my lab data live?
- In your network. SENAITE stays the system of record. Data Lens keeps a copy of your analyses in a PostgreSQL database that runs next to your SENAITE, on your own infrastructure. Nothing is sent to us or to a cloud.
- Can we use our own reporting tools?
- Yes. The data sits in a plain PostgreSQL table, so Excel, Power BI or any other tool that speaks SQL can read it directly. The bundled dashboards are a starting point, not a lock-in.
- What happened to SENAITY?
- SENAITY continues as SENAITE Data Lens. The hosted SENAITY demo at senaity.com shuts down on 31 October 2026. The anomaly detection from SENAITY is planned as a later extension of Data Lens.
